Pushkar Fair in India

Amidst the isolated desert, adorned with exuberant green hills and cloaked around the beautiful lake, is the unique “Creation of God”. You are invited to the holy city of Pushkar in Rajasthan. It is the only city in the world where one could find Brahma Temple. The city is most visited during the time of Pushkar Fair – the annual religious fair, held in the month of October/Novemeber for the period of 12 days.

The Pushkar Fair is no less than Wikipedia on the cultural rituals and traditions of the state of Rajasthan. It is he time when people from far and wide gather at one place for festive celebrations. It seems that the whole state comes alive at Pushkar with numerous exciting events and state sponsored frivolities thrown in. The most entertaining are traditional dances, folk music and short skits based on the great Indian epics Mahabharata and Ramayana.

Apart from than that acrobats, snake chambers, hypnotic, monkey trainers and story tellers entertain you the most. The whole atmosphere looks like a small miniature painting. Hindu devotees can be seen flocking around the Pushkar Lake for the holy dip in its water, in order to get rid of all the sins of the past. Pilgrims can be seen gathering at the temple to pay homage to Lord Brahma.

Pushkar is considered as an important place in Rajasthan to shop for handicraft items, textiles, clothes with beautiful embroidery, miniature paintings, leather goods, puppets, pottery and traditional Rajasthani jewelery with specialty of Rajasthan. At Pushkar Fair one can shop for items such as lovely bangles, beads, camel cover, embroider clothes, handbags, jewelry items and much more. Popular shopping areas in Pushkar include Kedalganj bazaar, Baza Bazar and Sarafa Bazar.
